Thanks to the prevalence of the Christmas story and nativity scenes, even non-Bible scholars are familiar with the general story of the three wise men arriving on the eve of Yeshua of Nazareth’s birth in a barn outside Bethlehem, as there was no room in the inn for Mary to give birth to her child in better circumstances. The three wise men, or magi, heard of the birth of the King and followed the Star of Bethlehem until they arrived at the stable, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

"Today’s slavery flourishes precisely because slaves are kept invisible, without the ability to make their voices heard. Tekhelet is an azure-sapphire-midnight blue, fade-resistant dye mentioned approximately 49 times in the Tanakh, believed to be God’s chosen color for ancient Israel and a prized shade of blue within the Jewish faith. This specific hue of blue is referenced in the clothing and headdresses worn by Israel’s High Priest and the tapestries of the Tabernacle. The hue has become largely symbolic of nobility, which is consistent with the purpose of the tallit—reminding a Jewish person of his special relationship with God and God’s commandments.
